PUTRAJAYA – Road users with outstanding traffic summons will only need to pay a special flat rate of RM50 each for a month April 21 onwards, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced today.

He said the special rate offered by police, however, is only applicable for offences committed in 2022 or prior.

“This special rate does not apply for traffic summons issued in 2023,” he said during a special press conference to announce a slew of government initiatives in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri celebration, here, today.

“However, the police remain committed to ensuring road safety is at an optimal level, particularly during the festive period.”

To ensure this, Anwar said the police will conduct Ops Lancar on April 18 and 19, focusing on roads that are expected to see heavy traffic.

Additionally, he said the Ops Selamat traffic safety operation will be enforced for a week beginning April 20.

“For this reason, the Royal Malaysian Police will cooperate with other agencies, including Rela and the Civil Defence Force, to ensure that hotspots, such as toll exits and entries, are not congested.”

Meanwhile, Anwar also announced that more than 1,000 selected prisoners have been allowed conditional release to celebrate the month of Ramadan and Syawal.

He said the Madani Ihsan Licensed Release of Prisoners Programme is meant to provide Muslim inmates the opportunity to celebrate Hari Raya with their families, adding that some non-Muslims will also enjoy similar benefits. – The Vibes, April 18, 2023
